As part of their FIBA-Asia preparations, the senior men's national basketball team of the Philippines will fly to New Zealand on Tuesday, July 9, for a ten-day training camp.
The first half of the camp will have the team in Napier, where former Lebanon and Jordan national team head coach Tab Baldwin will assist with the training. They would then proceed to Wellington on July 15 and Auckland on July 17.
Highlighting the camp are matches against National Basketball League teams, including 2010-11 champions Wellington Saints. They will also go up against the New Zealand national team, a.k.a. the "Tall Blacks," before the end of their sojourn.
In detailing the aspect of the NZ camp, national team head coach Chot Reyes on Monday said, "It will be a tiring camp for the team. In the days where there will be no games, we will have twice-a-day practice. For the game days, it will be practice in the morning, game in the evening."
He also adds, “We hope to simulate the game conditions that we will encounter in the FIBA Asia Championship. Only 30 days left and we will be facing the biggest challenge of our lives.”
The team will be back in the country on July 19.
