Spectators Should Expect to see Changes Made to Olympics

This is a guest post co-written by Nerissa Barry and Daniel Fielding. Any comments and queries can fielded to Nerissa via nerdbarry@gmail.com

The United States Olympic Committee USOC is not only looking to further the athletic accomplishments but also making sustainable environmental changes to the Winter Games. And with the bid for the 2022 games being awarded in 2015, they must be able to move fast with their efforts. The quest has already started in naming Andrew Liveris and Dow Chemical as the worldwide partner in the Olympics for the next decade.

During the last Winter Olympic Games (the Vancouver 2010 games), the United States garnered the most number of medals with 37, broken down into 9 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze. Thanks to American dominance in snowboarding (i.e. Shaun White), Nordic combined (i.e Lindsey Vonn), speed skating (i.e. Shani Davis) and skiing, it only makes sense that the United States should host the 2022 Winter Games. With possible venues like Denver and Reno-Tahoe, the USOC is looking to prepare a bidding process with the International Olympic Committee in hopes of bring great changes to this world celebration.

After the controversy over what transpired in securing the Salt Lake City bid, USOC Chairman, Larry Probst hopes to rebuild relationships first with their international counterparts before releasing all information concerning the bid. What we do know is that there is a lot of talk about making the Games more environment-friendly, and with this, the United States could put themselves in high bid mentions with what they're looking to add to the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Why are these changes such a big deal? As fantastic and unifying as the Olympics are, it's quite a carbon-rich event. Over 2/3 of the estimated carbon emissions from the event come from some of the 1.5+ million attendees traveling (mostly via airplane) to and from the event.

While the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics made great efforts to showcase conservation practices and sustainable energy sources, USOC members and sponsors are looking to go the extra mile on becoming a greener Olympics with these proposed plans:
  • Solar power - Used to light lawns, courtyards and streets at several venues, including the Olympic Village. A 130 KW photovoltaic system illuminated The National Stadium, where events such as athletics and football were held.

  • Water Conservation - Waste water collected from the Qinghe sewage treatment plant was filtered and used for the various heating and cooling needs throughout the Olympics site, yielding a 60% savings in electricity. Rainwater was collected from around the grounds, collecting over 75,000 gallons by using water permeable bricks, pipes and wells installed on roofs, roads and green areas.

  • Natural Light - Remember the famous 'Water Cube' where the aquatic events were held? The walls of the National Aquatics Centre provided natural light, and for the interior of the building, specially designed 'beam-pipes' funneled sunlight into corridors, toilets and car parks at venues, including the Olympic Green.

  • Recycling - The 2008 Olympic hosts aimed for a 50 per cent recycling of waste including paper, metals and plastics at venues. A modest expectation, considering that a test run carried out during the 11th World Softball Championships held in 2007, achieved a nearly 90 per cent recycling rate.

The IOC saw the opportunity to promote sustainability in the Olympics in 2008, helping provide the filtration and insulation for the events. That vision has progressed to include dozens of other products which will help reduce waste and promote conservation. You can expect these products to appear at the coming events over the next decade and be a part of the USOC recommendations.

Blog Outsourcing - 12/27 edition

Welcome to the latest edition of The Victory Formation!

This is going to be the final Monday of 2010. The countdown has begun to the beginning of a new year. A new decade even. Everyone is looking forward to it. The new year brings new hope and a brighter future. Although for some, they want to get away from 2010 as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, due to the stroke of luck that Christmas fell on a Saturday this year, our office decided to have no work on Friday (a.k.a. Christmas Eve). Considering that last year was the first time that I had to work on Christmas, it is something I am reluctant to do and it was very satisfying to be spending the holidays with family.

The better news is that I also get New Year's Eve off, so I am also going to spend the arrival of 2011 with my family instead of being holed up in a cubicle.

Hereforth are the links:

There was a snowstorm in Philly. So, we have Tuesday Night Football to look forward to.

No T.O.? No Ocho Cinco? Apparently, no problem for Carson.

St. Louis held up their bargain, rendering Jaaaaaash Freeman's performance irrelevant. Now it's a showdown worth flexing for.

We'll miss the Singletary sound bytes.

Now the parallel of the Miracle at the Meadowlands and the Meltdown at the New Meadowlands is complete, as the week after sees the Giants get blown out to smithereens.

Da Bears defeet the Jets. (Pun intended) & Jay Cutler still looks like a douche. But Rex still finds a way to smile.

The clock now officially begins for Carolina, thanks to Tim Tebow. Now, will Luck fall on their side?

Tom Brady may have closed all conversation about who is really the MVP. Maybe he'll let Michael Vick get the Offensive Player of the of the Year.

The ageless Jamie Moyer. Because he just never goes away.

Cliff Lee to Brandon Webb sure looks like a huge dropoff.

Who is the hottest wrestling diva?

Would you like to sponsor a birthday party fit for a King? Meanwhile, his contraction comments have elicited reactions all around.

Lebron just had a trip-dub on Christmas day. Durant had 44 and Monta had 39.

Blake Griffin is the gift that keeps on giving, see this for example.

This is moot if Favre retires after this season.

Possible suggestion for a H-O-R-S-E shot.

The streak continues for Crosby.

Holy Toledo! Panthers pull off a miracle.

No Cancun or Cabo for Catholics and Convicts.

Gators getting this person as part of the new coaching staff?

Renardo Sidney is such a talented yet troubled soul.

Lasers are bad for you. Must be from watching too much TRON: Legacy.

Leonardo trades his old red Milan for a blue Milan.

Will you shake your Christmas?

Blog Outsourcing - 12/20 edition

Welcome to Today's edition of The Victory Formation.

Christmas is just a few days away. It's this Saturday already and we can already feel the moment is just upon us. The midnight masses have already commenced. The traffic has been horrendous with all the sales that have popped up. After all, it was payday weekend and the bonuses have already arrived onto the payroll.

Over the weekend, I decided to give back and do a charitable venture. It is important that we remember the true meaning and spirit of the holiday season. It's not just about the ancillary parts. The truth about the holiday is that someone was born that was of importance and value. That individual would also remind us of a particular passage entitled Matthew 25:40.

Besides we don't want to look like this person below at this time of the year, right?
Angry Miz Girl

Hereforth are the links to kick off Christmas Week:

The Motherland may have failed in the quest, but it surely planted the seeds that would come into fruition eventually.

88 straight. Amazing.

Bowl season has commenced. BYU pounced on UTEP. Northern Illinois showed no mercy to Fresno State. Trojans just took it to Ohio.

The mess in Maryland continues. People are not pleased.

The State of New York drew 1-1 against the State of Pennsylvania. Both games provided drama. However for the State of NY, one was an epic fail. The other was a near epic fail.

Dan Connelly just pulled one of the great KO returns ever. It was icing on the cake.

The Broncos had a Tebowner. Here's proof.

The Michael Vick PR reclamation project continues.

Fins on ice.

The final link to the Babe has moved on.

Remember the puck that kills?

Why spend and waste exorbitant time and money? As someone who saw this kind of debacle earlier this year, The Big Ten should just do it already.

Blame it on the red field.

The NL Cy Young race just got a lot more interesting.

Twins hope he is not the next Kaz Matsui.

Yankees have moved on to their Plan B. Meanwhile, the Red Sox is in lockstep.

No Izzo, no problem.

More Miz vs Cycledan action.

Rick Pitino has tabled his plans for the summer.

Calipari gets a UN nod as a good guy. Who knew?

Knightro is 10-0. So is Jared Sullinger.

Looks like the PacMan protege plans something for Floyd in 2012. Still have no idea what the Pac has in store in the ring for 2011. Meanwhile, Floyd still remains a troubled soul.

Probably took cue from Hedo.

Speaking of Hedo, here's a little more detail on the trades involving the Magic Kingdom.

What now without Yao?

What a neat ploy by Modell's.

Tough sledding for the Bulls without Noah.

Pistons been getting some attention lately.

Lakers and Celtics just keep rolling along.

When you riot, make sure you know the correct nationality.

And to part ways today, I give you a classic tune that I feel is still apt now as it was decades ago.

The Younghusbands on RX 93.1

Thanks to Fran for the interview of James and Philip Younghusband that was aired last Saturday.

The Azkals made their media rounds to let people know about their campaign in the Suzuki Cup.
(They're already in Indonesia by now, prepping for their 2 football matches against them.)

Blog Outsourcing - 12/13 edition

Hi and Hello to the latest edition of The Victory Formation!

It's only 12 more days until it is Christmas and some can already feel it in the air, with Christmas parties, decors galore and the tunes that become Last Song Syndromes.

Meanwhile, the economy's hard times have spread everywhere. It seems unthinkable, but maybe it is time for the four major pro sports to think about advertising as a proverbial option for revenue. Look at futbol / soccer. They have been doing this for a long time and it brings in big revenue. Even a team like FC Barcelona (who hasn't received payment for jersey sponsorship ever until the start of next season) eventually had to capitulate and accept the harsh reality. (Considering that UEFA just tightened qualification rules for Euro football.)

At the same, I find it interesting that the Qatar Foundation (who will be joining UNICEF on the FC Barca shirt) just swooped in with a deal. After all, the Qataris have money to burn and a sneaky and smart plan that could be very beneficial. This might be something to work on for Qatar since they have 12 years to define a generation of football players.

As such, teams that are in such dire need of cash, like the NBA-owned Hornets, might want to look into this. The WNBA already has companies like Microsoft, Farmers Insurance and Foxwoods for shirt deals.

Speaking of football, the Motherland's National Team just had their send off party earlier today. They have made the semifinals and they will face Indonesia in a supposed to be a "home-and-home," but apparently we do not have the facilities to support a FIFA event. For more details, read this recapper of the state of Philippine football.

Lastly, this week, look who is making its return

Hereforth are the links to kick off the day:

5 downs. And they still could not pull it off.

Brodie Croyle is 0-10 now when he starts. Conversely, Tom Brady is 10-0 in the snow.

Aaron Rodgers just caused a lot of people to lose in the fantasy playoffs.

Wonder if he will eventually sell that on eBay.

If you have a problem with this one, just do what George Teague did.

Running Joke I have seen: James Harrison getting fined for this trip.

Niners still 1 game back from the NFC West title.

Once more, the roof collapse. Nice to know though that Domes stick together. Ford Field, here we Favre.

So, more people watched this hockey game than what is normally played here?

They got a left fielder, they might as well get a left back.

U-G-L-Y unis.

This is why I love how the Rose Bowl kept its name intact.

From Jon Gruden to Al Golden.

Keys in securing a college HC gig.

Vandy gets their man.

Randall Cobb gets more exposure time now.

This only happens in Alabama.

Finally. Now we know, Melo. Lala is running this couple. Odd timing, considering the Knicks are on a searing run.

Think the First Baller is giddy for this particular event.

Blake Griffin is awesome!

I am a fan of this artist, and that is how we end this roll...

Where Can I Have A Local Football Stadium

The success of the Azkals in the AFF Suzuki Cup has been a total shock and surprise to everyone. Even for the coaching staff and players. Now, with recent developments, we will be forced to have a "home" game elsewhere. I hope that the team is not discouraged with this chain of events but focus on the task at hand, which is to play against Indonesia in the semifinals. (Home-and-home is scheduled at December 16 & 19).

Given that, I was thinking about how we can get more facilities that can feasibly support a football stadium there. Here are 11 probable options we could go take a look-see.

1. Bacolod. They have the closest thing to a football stadium (Panaad) that can host such an event. Come to think of it, it already hosted the futbol matches when we hosted the SEA Games. That stadium would have been the likely place to have the home match, but the AFF said no. They have someone in politics who is a definite and genuine sports supporter / benefactor in Rep. Monico Puentevella. They also arguably have the most ardent fans of the sport in the country.

2. Iloilo. Similar to Bacolod, but my friend did tell me about the passion of the Ilonggos regarding futbol.

3. Tubod, Lanao del Norte. There is already a facility in place (the one they used for the Palarong Pambansa).

4 & 5. General Santos City, South Cotabato and Alabel, Sarangani. Quick, someone get Rep. Emmanuel Pacquiao on the phone.

6. & 7. Clark, Pampanga & Olongapo City. Hoping that the Lotto Winner (outlet where winning ticket was sold came from the area) would be kind and benevolent enough to bankroll building one.

8. Laguna. Trace College has a quality aquatic facility, so why not have a football facility. Someone suggested having it placed near Brent in Mamplasan.

9. & 10. City of Manila & Pasig City. Manila is home to the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex & Pasig is home to the Philsports Complex. Those two facilities need a major upgrade fast. Plus, it is very accessible to almost everyone.

11. Pasay City. The SM Group has long been planning to build a coliseum facility in the turf near the SM Mall of Asia. Why not go one step further and build a mega-facility instead ala LA Live. It would definitely benefit the university they own (NU).

Blog Outsourcing - 12/6 edition

Welcome to today's edition of the Victory Formation.

This is the first Monday of December and I can smell the sweetness of the Holiday season. With the Holiday season comes the shopping experience. Once the days come closer and closer to Christmas, the madness draws more and more.

My mom really needed a technological upgrade, since she has been missing out on being a part of the pictures. So I took her to a nearby sale to help her in purchasing a brand new point and shoot camera. Afterward, I managed to help her with a brand new laptop for work usage, although it looks like my younger sister will be taking advantage of it more. Nothing like taking advantage of a little family time together.

On a personal footnote: My alma mater seals their case as the best collegiate team in the Motherland. Nonito Donaire stakes his claim as a top P4P fighter. And yes, we pulled off a miracle.

Hereforth are the linkage.

Remember Alyssa Milano's commercial with the NFL that also included the Snyders? Well, someone did the D-I-Y route.

The Sacramento Kings should be the proponent of this, really. Or maybe the New Jersey Nets.

So, the Detroit Red Wings just do it, time and time again...

Just don't be like Antoine Walker at this point, eh?

Yup, it's winter time, so perfectly fine for snowball fights.

Just happy that someone like her has our heritage. (Could possibly be NSFW, you have been forewarned)

Just when you think they are already protecting the QB, some say they are still not protecting enough.

Ok, this happened in Miz's turf. Will the resident lawyer comment?

The Nationals. Who knew? That definitely came out of left field.

Derek Jeter must be an Al Pacino fan.

A-Gon is gone in San Diego. Adrian Beltre to be Mike Lowell'd? No means no, Oakland.

Is George a HOFer? We will know later.

Lance Berkman will not be playing 1st base in St Louis, right?

Sooner or later, the Reds glut of starting pitchers will be addressed. One has left for Petco.

Aroldis likes sealing the deal more.

We are a feisty 4-17 team. The running joke after this transpired has been why we haven't been bought up yet.

Fitting for Jimmy V Week. George Karl now at 999.

Wordaaap!

Magic > Pistons > Stomach Virus.

NBA on TNT > NFL Network

Bad breaks cost the Lions another win.

Tarvaris Jackson secured the win.

Never piss off the Sports Guy.

Cowboys win, but lose Dez Bryant. Fair shake?

Just as you think Texas fans are out of the woebegone...

Lame pun alert... Minnesota goes for the Kill. More lame pun alert... You got Serb'd.

Meanwhile, they got their men in Boulder.

Book is closed. For now.

The hottest name in coaching.

Gus Johnson once again trended Twitter for this and this. Too bad the Jags ran roughshod over the toothless Titans. AFC West, you have been forewarned. He'll be at Chiefs - Chargers & Broncos - Raiders in the next two weeks.

Please return the head. Ktnxbai. More action in the Civil War.

Bad blood spilling in LA.

Here's a parting picture of the Azkals (monicker of the Philippine Football team, local parlance means mongrel)

TWTWTNBA: Post-Thanksgiving Assessment (West)

This is a monthly check-up of the League. Yes, people will say this is too early, but with slightly more than a month in, it would be a good time to take an early temperature reading on where we are.

The Champs:

1. Los Angeles Lakers - Not a good week to put them up here because of their 4 game losing streak. However, until otherwise proven, they'll stay here. The B-List (Barnes, Blake, Brown) has been producing, but Fish and Ronron have been sluggish at best. Lamar Odom still doing adequately fine after his Istanbul stint. Kobe's just chugging along but it is Pau Gasol that's doing yeoman's work (20-11) for the Lake Show while we wait for the perpetual wildcard in Andrew Bynum.

Rejuvenation machine at work:

2. San Antonio Spurs - Tim Duncan now moving into old David Robinson mode. The question now with him will be when will he pass George Gervin's ABA-NBA points total (23,602. Duncan has 20,888). Tony Parker now focused on the game instead of Eva, although the drama never ceases. The break from international duty served Manu Ginobili in great stead (21-4-5, with a preseason coaching masterpiece). It also never ceases to wonder how Richard Jefferson is back (sort of, 15-4 50% shooting from the field). And oh, the wonders of Gary Neal.

Humming along thanks to a PG:

3. Utah Jazz - The comeback kids. They did it in four straight games at one point. They even pulled it off against the Clippers twice. Deron Williams has been great. And yes, Paul Millsap's omission on the All-Star ballot is absolutely egregious As egregious as Jerry Sloan never winning the COTY.

4. New Orleans Hornets - A scintillating start that impressed everyone. They then deal for Jarrett Jack, in exchange for the remnants of Peja Stojakovic, to reprise the hole that was ably filled by Janerro Pargo in that magical post-season. Chris knows Jarrett well. They faced off in the ACC (GaTech vs Wake) and came in the same NBA draft class (2005). (Atlanta Hawks fans can continue to drown their sorrows). GM Dell Demps (yep, that guy who played as an import here in the Motherland) deserves kudos for his off-season. Monty Williams still looks like he could still play. One hopes for the continued good health for Chris, because of that huge brace on his knee.

5. Dallas Mavericks - Dirk is playing at a MVP-level. To keep with the theme, Jason Kidd's keeping things steady. Like Millsap, the Jet was left off the ballot as well. Tyson Chandler is not on the ballot, but he's playing very well, like his fellow Istanbul mates. It is interesting to note that it looks as though the best former Wizard on the roster is actually the throw-in named DeShawn Stevenson.

Wild card:

6. Oklahoma City Thunder - So Nick Collison is worth $10.5 million this season. Their luck with health seems to have ended with KD and Jeff Green missing time. In his absence, Russell Westbrook has been incredible, maybe too incredible.

The quiet elephant in the room:

7. Denver Nuggets - The elephant in the room in this scenario being Carmelo Anthony, obviously. But Kenyon Martin has still not yet played this season. Yet, the Landlord is making himself home in his absence (5 pts 6 rebs) and Nene being asked to do more. Interesting that Melo is the leading rebounder with 8.3.

8. Phoenix Suns - This one is a little more subtle, because Steve Nash has never made any pronouncements. In fact, his first preference has always been to stay in Phoenix. But he's 37 already and he really wants to win a ring. And you never really know about the owner. Once again, Robin Lopez's injury is costing them. Hakim Warrick just ok right now as the replacement to Amar'e.

Injuries to wreak havoc:

9. Portland Trailblazers - It already has struck with Greg Oden this season. Joel Przybilla is not yet here. And Brandon Roy has an achy knee. The concern has made the Wesley Matthews signing really worth the flak it got at the time. They have been sputtering as of late, so they will shuffle things a bit.

10. Golden State Warriors - David Lee just got cleared. Monta Ellis is a constant injury concern. Ditto with Stephen Curry. However, the new ownership has seemed to given new life to the W's. Dorell Wright has been a major steal. Oh, and the new unis are sweet. The spirit of Nellieball remains bright as they are still prone scenarios like Pau.

Slow start:

11. Memphis Grizzlies - Unlike the Kings below, these guys are closer to figuring things out. NBA fans probably think this was worth all the moolah that went Rudy Gay's way. Just recently, Mike Conley got paid, then showed them something. Hey, they beat both the Lakers and the Heat, something they and the Pacers both share. Now, if only their second unit can keep things up.

12. Houston Rockets - Doesn't help matters when Aaron Brooks is still sidelined. When healthy enough, Yao Ming still remains under the minutes cap. They would be in a worse state if not for the emergence of Luis Scola, who was the subject of an Artest prank.

Mediocrity

13. Sacramento Kings - They have a logjam at the bigs and currently Jason Thompson in on the losing end as of the moment, although he did steal a start. They have a lot of parts on the table, Paul Westphal needs to figure out which parts fit. Oh, and what you see is what you get with DeMarcus Cousins.

14. Minnesota Timberwolves - To David Kahn's credit, nabbing Michael Beasley for two second-rounders is great. Darko's feeling at home as the starting center. But they still got a long long way to go. They still have THE statline of the year so far. It would be nice to monitor Jonny Flynn as of the moment. Meanwhile, How's Ricky?

The Abyss:

15. Los Angeles Clippers - It's neat that the Clippers have beaten both New Orleans and San Antonio when they were atop of the league. Baron Davis just came back. Chris Kaman is still sidelined, although he's closing in. Still, the schedule-makers have been unkind to them and it shows, especially when you consider they're virtually an under-23 lineup (Griffin, EJ, DJ, Gordon, Bledsoe). However, Blake Griffin has been manna from heaven. The Clipperwolves (Foye, Rhino, Gomes) have been adequate as well. There is really nothing much, but I would like to see VDN continue to feed this bunch further to the wolves and let them fend it.

TWTWTNBA: Post-Thanksgiving Assessment (East)

This is a monthly check-up of the League. Yes, people will say this is too early, but with slightly more than a month in, it would be a good time to take an early temperature reading on where we are.

Leading the Pack:

1. Orlando Magic - In spite of Rashard Lewis' slow start, they're using their quality depth to make headway. That and Dwight doing 22-11. Oh, and they finally thought of using Brandon Bass like Paul Millsap. That depth will come in handy in any case they intend to be involved in the trade market. Guys like Jameer Nelson, Air France, Marcin Gortat would be dealt for another stud, if they so choose. And by the way, love this little snippet of Dwight's take on Derek Anderson. He really is Young Shaq without the mean streak.

2. Boston Celtics - Jermaine O'Neal and Delonte West are both sidelined right now. Shaq and Rajon were sidelined at one point. And yet they have quality pieces (Semi Erden? Von Wafer?) that are at par with (not necessarily better than) the Lakers and the Magic. They already have the psychological advantage over the Heat. And any chemistry issues with this locker room have been squelched, as of the moment.

3. Atlanta Hawks - Josh Smith is already making a play for DPOY as well as his 1st All-Star selection. Al Horford could make a case as the best one of the Florida 04's in the pros. Unfortunately, the guy who got paid will be unavailable until 2011.

Surprisingly Good:

4. Chicago Bulls - They are here because they still are waiting for the debut of Carlos Boozer (Note: he just made his debut). Coach Thibs likes having Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson manning the defense, while Derrick Rose (26-4-8) is taking over the offense, which is why it boggles the mind as to why they need to go after another alpha dog in Carmelo Anthony. What they really need is another guard. Keith Bogans and Ronnie Brewer? Please. Kyle Korver is adequate as an reserve guard tasked to just shoot.

5. Indiana Pacers - Yup. They finally won against the Lakers at Staples. Who knew? They scored 54 pts in 12 minutes like it was NBA 2k11. Who knew? They manhandled the Heat. Who knew? Can they keep this great start? That remains to be seen.

The Heat Index:

6. Miami Heat - Saw a funny tweet that instead of Miami Vice, it feels more like CSI: Miami, where the hundreds of Horatio Caine wannabes take off / put on the glasses (and cue the Who's Won't Get Fooled Again) and make prognostications. Seriously, they need Eric Snow-esque and Tyrone Hill-like guys. Those two pretty much sacrificed their lives for Allen Iverson back then (Speaking of Iverson...)

Chugging along:

7. New York Knicks - Amar'e really gives them an oomph. However, they are prone to career nights from anybody. Simmons has posited 11.5 as the over/under for such kinds of stats against the Knicks / Warriors. Already career nights from Kevin Love and Blake Griffin down pat. They're getting there with the SSOL philosophy. And wow on Landry Fields. And he was a mid-second rounder.

8. Cleveland Cavaliers - All eyes on TNT this Thursday night (Friday morning in the Motherland). That is all.

Stumbling across the starting line:

9. Charlotte Bobcats - Cap'n Jack already getting suspended. Availability of the C&C (aforementioned Jackson and Crash) is paramount. DJ Augustine has been adequate, but can he continue to do this or will the rumored B-Diddy for Boris Diaw deal eventually rise.

10. Milwaukee Bucks - They are not exactly fraying at the bit from the Skiles experience, but it's more of the added expectations after their close call with Atlanta in the playoffs. They really need size insurance, especially if both Andrew Bogut and Drew Gooden are unavailable. In addition, John Salmons is in the "I-just-got-paid-so-I-can-slack-zone."

Mediocrity:

11. Toronto Raptors - Some have said this is the worst roster assembled. They lose Reggie Evans who inhales rebounds for a living, providing a reason for Andrea Bargnani to just stay out and play like Danilo Gallinari. Demar Derozan has been ok so far. Trading away Jarrett Jack looks to benefit Jose Calderon more.

12. New Jersey Nets - Devin Harris' injury was not that major, but he will miss time. Travis Outlaw has been as much a disappointment as Anthony Morrow been a surprise. Kris Humphries has also eased out Troy Murphy in the rotation due to his effort. Expect nothing until the Melo issue is resolved.

13. Washington Wizards -The development of John Wall has been ok. He's currently on the mend, but things are looking up. Gilbert has been serviceable, but he's still Gilbert. They still have a long long way to go, but at least, the way is pretty much set.

14. Detroit Pistons - Talk about a fall from grace for Joe Dumars. People touting him as the best GM in the NBA, whose only blip was Darko. The woebegone Pistons now has Rodney Stuckey clashing with their coach, Tayshaun Prince mouthing off to fans and no Jonas Jerebko in sight. Don't forget the Charlie Villanueva cancer context. Richard Hamilton needs a change of scenery, but his current numbers will not allow a deal that would be for the Pistons' benefit.

15. Philadelphia 76rs - The worst thing to be in is when you are really bad and that you do not have salary cap room, a.k.a stuck in Salary Cap Hell. Elton's okay, but considering how much he is getting, should be better. Jrue has been good so far, as well as Louis Williams off the bench, but they will have to think about dealing to continue to process.
