Wesley Matthews, Robin Lopez, and Avery Johnson to grace 1st Gatorade NBA Training Center in the Philippines

Gatorade, in conjunction with the NBA, will have its first-ever Gatorade NBA Training Center in the Philippines later today at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City.

Robin Lopez and Wesley Matthews of the Portland Trailblazers, as well as ESPN NBA analyst and former NBA champion Avery Johnson will help teach the finer points of basketball as well as share their training techniques with Gatorade collegiate brand ambassadors Jeron Teng, Von Pessumal, Mike Tolomia and Kevin Ferrer, as well as first round draft picks Chris Banchero, Kevin Alas and Rodney Brondial from the recently-held Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft.

Johnson will also share some of his coaching philosophy that helped him lead Dallas to the 2006 NBA Finals with some of the local coaches in their own session. He expressed his excitement in coming to Manila for the first time to participate in the event, adding that “The Philippines has tremendous basketball potential, as we’ve all seen recently on the world stage, and I am eager to share my skills and knowledge with the country’s future stars.”

In the US, the Gatorade NBA Training Center aims to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyle choices for athletes ages 13-17, highlighting on nutrition, hydration, exercise and physical and mental activity. During the event, there are body measurement, strength and conditioning stations, as well as endurance tests evaluating your physical fitness and identifying key areas for improvement. The collaboration between the league and the sports drink giant brings together elite athletes and top instructors in the field of basketball, fitness and conditioning, and nutrition to oversee the activities within the event.
