SM Mall of Asia to host football development program

The Philippines Azkals have established a developmental program that would help with the growth of football in the youth and grassroots level. Dubbed as the "A Project," the program aims to help Philippine football make an even bigger impact in the Asian Football scene, according to team manager Dan Palami. He adds that the success of this program would eventually lead to more homegrown players in the national team.

As part of the project, the Philippine Azkals has entered into a partnership with the SM Mall of Asia with regards to the development of an elite football program for children between the ages of six and twelve.

An artificial pitch will be installed inside the mall that will then serve as the venue and host for a football development program that will be overseen by the Total Football group of Coach Leigh Manson.

Manson has had 20 years of football experience from around the world as a National Development Coach for the Scottish FA. His Total Football Academy in Japan is training 500 players weekly in its eight locations. Total Football is in charge of recruitment for that country with regards to the Nike FC U-18 squad and has been tapped for the past couple of years to assist the Pocari Sweat Sports Clinic to help train 5,000 women footballers, from the Under-12 and above.

The technical and progressive curriculum allows the group to design a specific program tailored to the specific needs of a particular participant that will allow them to master their skills and techniques needed before they can progress to the next level. This kind of curriculum is being utilized in the United States and Europe.

The program will kick off on January 11 from 10am to 10pm, and will take place during weekends. However, weekday sessions will be made available when the summer months come into play. Scholarships are also available for kids belonging to marginalized communities, based on their merit and financial capacity.  Palami believes that with the assistance of the private sector, as many as 200 kids could partake of the program in this way.

In addition, the group can assist with diagnostic training sessions for schools or clubs. They can also assist with regards to mini-games or tournaments at the facility. Those with inquiries can contact Total Football at (0916) 734-1618 or (0919) 803-2024. They can also send an e-mail to totalfootballph@gmail.com or visit their Facebook page.
