TV5 is to telecast the matches of the Philippines Under-17 men's basketball team at the FIBA Under-17 World Championships in Dubai LIVE later this week.
Helmed by Jamike Jarin, the team dubbed as "Batang Gilas" qualified for Dubai by finishing in second place at the FIBA-Asia U-16 championships that was held in Tehran last year. He has vowed that the team will show "Puso" as they attempt to make an impact in their upcoming matches.
Jarin, knowing that coming into the tournament as the smallest team, intends to make the game faster, quicker and then force the opposition to shoot from the outside.
Leading the way in the squad are the Ateneo High School trio of twins Matt and Mike Nieto, and Jolo Mendoza. Alongside them are Diego Dario and Paul Desiderio of the UP Maroons, as well as Arnie Padilla and Richard Escoto of Far Eastern University.
Completing the 12-man roster are Carlo Abadeza, Michael Louise Dela Cruz, Lorenzo Navarro, Jose Go IV, and Emmanuel Panlilio.
Here are scheduled preliminary matches for the Philippines:
August 8 vs Angola (4:45 pm local time)
August 9 vs Greece (7:45 pm local time)
August 11 vs United States (7:45 pm local time)
TV5 also revealed that they will also have coverage of the Round of 16 on August 12 (8-10pm), the Quarterfinals on August 14 (8-10pm), the Semifinals on August 15 (8-10pm), and the Finals on August 16 (5-7pm).
