Skyforce relied on former ABL MVP Leo Avenido to come out unscathed in the opening week of the 2013 Danny Espiritu Cup at the Treston College Gym in Taguig.
Avenido finished with 16 points each in their two victories, a 93-76 blowout over Expert Global Solutions and a 93-83 win over GlobalPort. Ably helping the former FEU standout is Floyd Dedicatoria, who averaged 15.5 points in both games.
GlobalPort, which is mainly backstopped by the staff of the PBA team, relied on their early hot shooting, eventually ending up with 12 three-pointers for the game. They were not able to sustain it, however, to which Skyforce took advantage, although they did manage to cut the lead to eight before last year's finalists managed to bounce back and ensure victory.
Allan Gamboa led GlobalPort with 17 points while Erwin Sta. Maria and Franz Bercede combined for 27 points.
