Sarmiento retains PXC Lightweight Title in PXC 35

The Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City became a hub once again for mixed martial arts recently, as Pacific X-Treme Combat held PXC 35 on Valentine's Weekend. The PXC has made it its home in Manila until its recent move to host it at the Araneta Coliseum.

PXC 35 surely went to the quick and decisive route, as only one match went to the scorecards, while over half of the card only needed just one round to decide a winner, which included the main event.

Reigning PXC Lightweight champion Harris "The Hitman" Sarmiento was successful in retaining his belt, as he made Isaiah Ordiz tap to his kimura before the end of the first round. Sarmiento went with the ground game for his 36th victory, with most expecting him to go toe-to-toe with Ordiz, who suffered his first loss in this third-ever MMA fight. After the victory, he wanted to get another shot at Mark Striegl, who beat him in his last fight before this one.

Meanwhile, PXC Flyweight champion Ale Cali now has an opponent. Louis Smolka survived an early beatdown from Alvin Cacdac, making him tap from a rear naked choke in the third round to chalk up his third straight win.

Other winners include Troy Bantiag, Chuji Kato, Dario Banario, Zebastian Kadestam, Ernesto Montilla, Miguel Mosquera and Glen Ranillo.

PXC 35 would not be possible without the help of the following: Sports 5 and San Mig Strong Ice, E-Games, Fitness First, FHM Philippines, FHM.com.ph, Premiere Condoms, Healthway Agility Philippines, Beer Below Zero, Eden Night Club, Real Sports Radio and Loqal.ph.

Lightweight title at stake at PXC 35

MMA action in the Philippines returns, as the biggest Asia-Pacific's biggest and arguably best MMA organization in Pacific X-Treme Combat, brings its latest MMA event, PXC 35, which is scheduled to take place at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on February 16. It's their latest MMA event in the country, after making their initial Philippine debut back in July 2011.

PXC CEO EJ Calvo is excited to kick off 2013 with great matchups for the MMA event, adding that PXC 35 will feature fighters from all over the world, including some rising MMA talents from the Philippines. He also promises fans attending the event would be seeing an exciting night of fights.

The main event of PXC 35 will feature Harris "The Hitman" Sarmiento (35-24) as he faces Isaiah Ordiz (2-0). Sarmiento is looking to bounce back after his defeat to Mark Streigl on PXC 34 last November, defending his lightweight title against Ordiz. The youngster beat Kristoffer Persson last September, then took a split decision against Tristan Arenal last November.

Also in the card will be the match-up of Fil-Am Alvin Cacdac (11-9) against the undefeated Louis "Da Last Samurai" Smolka of Hawai'i. Other fights include Team Lakay's Troy Bantiag (4-1) against Guam native Tony Reyes (5-5); Hong Seung Chan (2-0) of Korean Top Team against Chuji Kato (3-1) of Japan; and Ronald Jhun (24-24) of Hawai'i facing Zebastian Kadestam (3-0) of Sweden.

PXC 35 will also include homegrown Filipino MMA talent like Dario Banario (2-0) against Joseph Mercado (1-1), Ruel Catalan (1-2) facing Ernesto Montilla, Jr. (0-1), Adrian Hillana (1-0) versus Steve Grandeza (0-1) and Glenn Ranillo (1-2) against Mark Billena.

Presented by San Mig Strong Ice and Sports5, PXC 35 action will start at 7pm, with television coverage to be shown via satellite on AkTV at 9pm.

PXC 31 this Saturday

Mixed martial arts fans in the Philippines will once again get to see some skirmishes again, as Pacific X-treme Combat (PXC) is to take place on July 14 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City with PXC 31. It begins at 7pm, while those unable to go can watch it on a slightly delayed basis on AkTV at 9pm that night.

Highlighting the MMA event is reigning PXC bantamweight champion Justin "The Shocker" Cruz from Guam attempting to defend his belt against Team Lakay's Crisanto "The Slugger Pitpitunge. This is a classic styles-makes-fights matchup, with a striker going up against a technical submission machine.

Crisanto earned the right for the 135-lb belt thanks to his last three wins on PXC events, two of which came via stoppage. If he wins against Justin, he would be the second Filipino to win a PXC belt, after Ale Cali pulled it off in PXC 29 last February.

From L to R: Richie Redman, Justin Cruz, Crisanto Pitpitunge, Tristan Arenal
PXC 31 is presented by San Mig Strong Ice and Sports 5, with special thanks to e-Games, Best Western F1 Hotel (where the fighters are staying and where the press conference for the fight was held), Rogin-E, Fitness First, Beer Below Zero, Premiere Condoms, FHM Philippines, FHM.com.ph, Healthway Agility Phil., Real Sports Radio and Loqal.ph
